OF VISIONS AND LOVE – written by Desmond E. Dennis

OF VISIONS AND LOVE

It might have been a dream
It could have been a premonition
But I still see it, still see her
My Love, Jamaica.

I remember how warm I felt
Taken in, taken aback,
Taken forward, made to search her face
My Love, Jamaica.
In the dream, I fell in love with
the way the sun smiled when she awoke
and how the moon almost borrowed its light
from the light of her children.
Then, I fell madly for the way her warriors, defenders, protectors
worked to preserve the beauty
of her lush greens and
the brilliance of her blues.

I fell in love with who she was.

I fell in love with her story
— stories, sounds, moves, movements —
fabric wrapping her body.
What was once Xaymaca
LAND praised by the forepeoples
sought, stolen, sold,
Now stands my proud Love, Jamaica
reclaimed, reimagined, restored.

What beauty!
Past and Future
steel and mortar
framed by eternal wood and water,
her lasting treasures
(famously hidden)
continue to pull the world in
to her hub.

Sanctuary:
where all learn
from the best
to produce the best
and be the best
versions of themselves;
where bodies once broken
rebuild cities bright as diamonds;
minds harness immeasurable potential,
mine infinite pools of knowledge
and prepare the blueprint
for rich, self-sustaining cities
and balanced eco(nomic) systems
all wealthy
all equal, all prospering
partnering
to eliminate hunger and in-fighting
only going to war against violence
and the exploitation of sweet Love’s sacred energy reserves
her people
their talents
the produce.
I saw it: people protecting the fauna, the flora
The land sustaining the people
divinely ordered.

Why does my love for My Love consume me like I consume her world-class cuisine and culture?
I’ve sat with this love for a while.
I sit still.
It might have been a dream
It could have been a premonition
But I saw it, still see her
the place of choice to live, work, raise families, and do business
My Love, Jamaica.
